Chrome / After Effects 2024+ / Windows

Turn a live webpage into editable After Effects layers.

Web2AE captures the page you are looking at and rebuilds the visible browser viewport inside After Effects using editable text, native shapes, separate images and sensible precomps.

Editable, not a screenshot.

Wherever the browser viewport can be rebuilt safely, Web2AE produces editable After Effects content rather than a flat image.

  • 01Editable textReproduces browser typography as editable After Effects text where that can be done safely.
  • 02Native shapesBuilds cards, buttons, fills and borders as native shape layers.
  • 03Images and precompsPlaces images, thumbnails and avatars separately, with rounded clipping and masks where possible.

Send the page you are looking at.

The capture is triggered by you, one page at a time.

  1. Install both parts

The Chrome extension from the Web Store, and the After Effects companion.

  2. Open the page and click Web2AE

Leave the Web2AE panel open in After Effects while you capture.

  3. Send current page to AE

Web2AE builds the composition in your open project.

Two-part install.

The extension is the normal route, and the companion runs locally to do the After Effects work.

  1. Install the extension

Add Web2AE to Chrome from the Chrome Web Store.

  2. Install the After Effects companion

Download the Windows ZIP, close After Effects, run Install Web2AE.bat, then restart After Effects.

  3. Open the panel

Open Window, then Extensions, then Web2AE, and leave it open while capturing.

Privacy and requirements Web2AE processes a page only when you press Send Current Page to AE, and capture data goes only to the companion running on your own computer. There is no cloud processing, analytics account or subscription. Requires Windows 10 or 11, After Effects 2024 or newer, and Chrome or Firefox.
